When I read the phrase “God’s GPS” I reflected back to my travels throughout the Southwest. In many cities, I had no idea where I was going; but entered the address into my GPS & boom, I arrived….sometimes! Many times, it led me to a dead end.
WTF, I’m lost, why is this happening to me? I’m going to be late for my appointment. I’d have to call and apologize, explain where I was, and finally end up in the right place.
Yesterday, at the 7:30am Meeting, we read We Agnostics. The discussion that followed was exciting. Some were agnostic, others atheist. But all agreed on 2 things: 1st, that willingness to enter into the rooms of recovery was a start; and 2nd, no one knew where they’d end up. One thing was certain: no one wanted to go back to where they were!
Heading home, I started the process of decoding my brother’s iPhone messages. The only guide I had was willingness to look at each message, and call or text the number listed. One message, one call at a time. I sent my cousin all of the updates to process.
Many hours later, it was all completed. I was just following an inner GPS.
On the 6pm Men’s Zoom, Brian presented his experience with Step 3. He had ended up homeless in Clovis, NM, just down the road from where I was holed up in the Motel 6! Neither of us had a clue to the New Life that was ahead, It certainly was not on our GPS, but Someone, Something had it dialed in! And Somehow, we tuned in, and 7 years later, joined in on a meeting together!
Then, Brent shared the story about his dogs; two of them would run out of the gate and not come home. A day later, he would get a call to pick them up; many times, chewed up & limping. On the other hand, his dog Bill W. listened to Brent; we went to Sunrise Ski Area and hung out, and when we went to Charlie Clarks for dinner, Bill W. even got his own steak!
Thank you for sending a GPS signal to keep me from being lost. I need to keep downloading the updates and share my journey with you; I don’t have to be picked up from somewhere, waking up dazed and confused. chewed up and limping!
