Early on, you told me that God loves me unconditionally. How could that be, after all of my insane behavior, all of my mistakes? You then told me that forgiveness was the key; that my job now was to forgive others, as I’ve been forgiven.
Today, I still find that to be one of the most difficult assignments. Sometimes, to get angry, fight back and respond with criticism is my first response. You then told me, “Restraint of pen and tongue is not easy; progress not perfection. We are spiritual beings having human experiences.”
Yesterday, having coffee with my 90 year-old friend Walter, we talked about our journeys, challenges, setbacks, and progress. Like my old friend Stan G. once told me, “Steve, don’t try to get perfect by Thursday.” Later that night, Gail and I went to an engagement party. The couple promised to try to love and be kind to each other, and that willingness is the key! Duh!!
Today, I admit that oftentimes I want things to go so smooth and lose my patience, but that God loves you, and I’m trying.”
