“What do you mean sobriety is a gift?”

Three readings. A song that says the rest. And inspiration for whatever this day is here to teach.

The Hidden Work of Grace

Richard Rohr

“Our first glimpse of the Absolute was God’s first great gift to us. Maybe it was a loving time in our childhood. Then, maybe a trauma, suffering, or a darkness occurred; something we cannot seem to come out of. Now in recovery, we go back to this darkness, to process and embrace it as an invitation to intimacy on God’s part. And that this darkness of the soul, this emptiness, is His greatest gift to us. For it is only in this vast emptiness and darkness that He can enter our souls, as our Beloved, and fill us with unutterable radiance.”

In God's Care: Daily Meditations on Spirituality in Recovery

Hazelden Foundation

“A loving God appreciates our unique talents. The contribution we're making at a particular time may be evident to our friends or co-workers. Even so, at times, our fears of not being lovable can still haunt us. What can we do? We can reach out to help someone else feel special. All it takes is a moment of thoughtfulness, perhaps the simple decision to offer a smile, or a loving touch. Our Higher Power has called us, and needs us as emissaries of His love. Today, as a beloved child of God, I will reach out with love to another person.”

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Hazelden Foundation

Meditation for the Day “We can do greater works when we have more experience of the new way of life. We can have all the power we need from the Unseen God. We can have His grace, His spirit, to make us effective as we go along each day. Opportunities for a better world are all around us. Greater works can we do. But we do not work alone. The power of God is behind all good works. Prayer for the Day I pray that I may find a rightful place in the world. I pray that my work may be made more effective by the Grace of God.”
