A Wave

“In recovery, my mind can be like a runaway train.”

Three readings. A song that says the rest. And inspiration for whatever this day is here to teach.

Touchstones: A Book of Daily Meditations

Hazelden Foundation

“Overcontrol is spiritually deadening. In recovery, our continuing renewal is a miraculous event. We can be in touch with ourselves and the messages around us without trying to control the outcome. When we let God do the worrying, we find many new possibilities open up. As the adventure of a new life unfolds, help me to embrace Your love; not try to understand everything, or out of fear, shy away from new opportunities.”

Practice of the Presence

Brother Lawrence

“During set times of silent prayer, try not to use many words. Long discourses often create distractions. Do your best to keep your mind in God’s presence. If it wanders or pulls away, don’t be discouraged. We simply can pause and repeat,“Thy will, not mine be done.” We ask for strength to bring it back to this moment. In this way, God will open our hearts to new doorways in the mystery of Faith.”

My Jewish Learning

Rabbi Benjamin J. Segal

“Ever since our father Abraham, we have anticipated the rewards of God’s protection, but too often we have seen our trials and tribulations as challenges to our faith. Psalm 27 states, “The LORD is my light and my help; whom should I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life, whom should I dread?” The psalmist testifies once again that love of the Holy One is achieved, not by closing one’s eyes, but, even as with less significant loves, through effort, honesty, and open confrontation. Within, there is strength that passes all understanding. Today, help me have faith in the Power that connects me to the land of the living.”
