The term “flip the switch” from today's readings struck me. That’s what drugs and alcohol did for me. Maybe why they called it “getting turned on?!” Walking into recovery, it was obvious I was turned off. How are meetings and 12 Steps going to help flip the switch again?
Yesterday morning, I met up with Fernando & Richard at the Adobe for breakfast. There was a 4th chair at the table, and I looked over and said,
“My brother should be sitting there!” Fernando laughed and said he was, and then showed me he was wearing Bob’s new shoes from the other day helping clean out Bob’s apt. They looked great! In between laughter, anger and sadness, I was not alone, and we said a prayer.
I headed back to Bob’s to turn in the keys, and drove up to the cabin. KSLX was playing the best 500 songs, and memories of sharing great rock ‘n roll with Bob carried me along. We shared many great times listening to music, and he played great guitar.
Coming into Show Low, I called my buddy Brian, and we met at Red Devil. The place was jammed, but we grabbed 2 seats at the bar, had dinner and caught up on life. And what a life it is; the waves keep coming. And we've been given amazing tools to ride them!
Leaving with gratitude, I opened the cabin, and then Gail drove in. We sat on the couch watching a movie, under blankets because we had the windows open and it was 55 degrees inside!!
Crawling into bed, and reviewing the day's activities, we gave thanks for a productive and wonderful day filled with love.
Sitting on the front deck this am, It’s not rocket science; it’s Brain Salad Surgery! Still, you turn me on! It’s porch therapy and God who flips the switch.
Thank you for giving me the gift of Recovery that still turns me on and enables me to embrace wonderful memories and Love, and to let go of the rest.
