A Wave

December 18, 2025 · desert

“About a half mile in, it dawned on me what a beautiful world we live in.”

Three readings. A song that says the rest. And inspiration for whatever this day is here to teach.

Three Teachings on Generosity

The Tricycle Community

“The greatest gift is the act of giving itself." Meditation may be the primary practice associated with Buddhism these days, but dana, a Sanskrit and Pali word that means ‘gift’ or ‘generosity,’ is one of the most fundamental Buddhist values. The importance of dana is central to the path of the bodhisattva and the first of the ten paramitas, or perfections, to cultivate on the path to awakening.”

Reverence and Awe

Richard Rohr Daily Meditations

“To forget that you are only human; to think you can act like a god— this is the opposite of reverence. Reverence bestows dignity; it is only in the light of dignity that the beauty and mystery of a person, of all life, becomes visible. As we embrace the recognition of Something greater than the self— Something beyond human creation or our control, we open to God. Today, God, let me recognize and discover, for whatever I encounter, the Light of dignity and our Love.”

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Hazelden Foundation

Meditation for the Day “This vast universe around us, including this wonderful earth on which we live, was once perhaps only a thought in the mind of God. The nearer the astronomers and the physicists get to the ultimate composition of all things, the nearer the universe approaches a mathematical formula, which is thought. The universe may be the thought of the Great Thinker. We must try to think God's thoughts after Him. We must try to get guidance from the Divine Mind as to what His intention is for the world and what part we can have in carrying out that intention. Prayer for the Day I pray that I may not worry over the limitations of my human mind. I pray that I may live as though my mind were a reflection of the Divine Mind.”
