Waking up at the cabin this morning, I walked into the kitchen where my buddy Richard had already made the coffee. We drove up yesterday to get the’ 67 Corvette, ready with a new electronic ignition that promises better and continuous spark. Wow, isn’t that what I needed when I first came to you, frightened, ashamed and lost?
But when you showed me Step 3, and suggested I turn my life over to God, I thought you were trying to convert and baptize me! You laughed, and pointed out the statement in Bill’s Story on p. 12 when Ebby asks Bill,
“Why don’t you choose your own conception of God?” Growing up in a Jewish household, we lit the Friday night candles, recited the prayers, and at 13 I was Bar Mitzvahed. I took over running my life at that point; that’s what I thought you were supposed to do. In 1983, 20 years later, at age 33, I was at the jumping off point, sober. I distinctly remember saying, “OK, what do I have to lose? My way is not working.”
I began the journey in faith; trading in self-reliance for a new and upgraded spiritual solution; one that I find
really works fine if I keep the rest of my ‘vehicle’ in shape.
Thanks for a daily tune up, thru willingness, surrender, fellowship and a continuous spark from my Higher Power. Even better than the low spark from high heeled boys (& girls!) ..take a listen to the extended version below:
