Early on in recovery, I read that God gave us instincts and brains to use. I was confused, and wondered, “so what do I turn over to God; how is God going to fix everything?”
I called my sponsor, and 42 years later, still do when I get confused over God’s will vs. mine.
My sponsors have always given me the same answer, followed by a question.
They all have said to me, “Steve, look where your instincts and smart mind took you. How did it work?
And, more importantly, why are you here in recovery?”
I had to admit, then & now, is that I don’t have all of the answers. I must look to a Higher Power.
Last night, once again, that Power showed up at our cabin, when Bobbie A, Brian B, and our friend Matt H and his girlfriend Kate, on their way to Taos, all came by for dinner. It really was a magical evening. Their stories of "coincidences" and miracles in their lives helped answer my question of “how is everything going to work out?”
Walking in faith, trusting in this unseen Higher Power, is scary. I must let go of the need to control and manage;
but as a result, I get to accept His Grace, Love & Forgiveness, rather than taking credit, or blaming myself, or someone else, for things not working out my way.
Wow! The more I learn how to let go, it all is really getting better all the time!
Thank you for the gifts of letting go and letting God continue to work in my life.
