Reading today's meditations, the word petrified jumped off the page. As a 12 year old kid riding in the family station wagon going across the country, we came to the petrified forest in Arizona. What exactly is petrified wood? Well, according to Webster, it’s wood that has turned to stone after millions of years mineralized by the elements. It didn’t take my heart that long; within 15 years after picking up my first drink and drug, my heart and ego were hardened by all of the events that didn’t turn out how I wanted.
Today, recovery begins with my heart and soul reaching out for love; God’s love, buried deep within, rather than chasing all of the material and physical comforts that get washed or blown away in a hard storm.
Thanks, God, for shining Your light on me, to open my heart with Your strength & love, and to soften my petrified soul into goodness.
