Answers in the Heart: Daily Meditations for Men and Women

P. Williamson and S. Kiser

Being alone gives us the chance to find ourselves in a new way. We may be surprised to find inner resources we didn't know we had. A period of waiting through adversity can also turn us to our Higher Power when the solace we need is beyond the capacity of people to give. It's challenging to do nothing when the world tells us that we must always take action. When action isn't possible, accepting the circumstances of our lives enables us to experience the value of being, rather than doing. When some part of my life is beyond my control, I can be patient and simply wait. Inaction is not necessarily inactivity.

Daily Meditations

Richard Rohr, O.F.M.

The gift of contemplative prayer is not a way of thinking or speaking. It’s much more a way of not thinking and not talking. It is more about naked presence. It finally moves beyond words into silence, into awareness of the Mystery that is too deep for words to explain. Our awareness of God’s presence is outside of and beyond our power to express in any words or conceive in any thought. While our prayer of words is an attempt to express to ourselves our relationship with the Great Mystery, the prayer of silence is not so much to express but to experience that mutuality. We acknowledge and rejoice that we are the beloved. We sit and wait until we know this truth in our body and in our memory.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Hazelden Foundation

Meditation for the Day “I believe that my faith and God's power can accomplish anything in human relationships. There is no limit to what these two things can do in this field. Only believe, and anything can happen. Saint Paul said, "I can do all things through Him who strengthened me." All walls that divide you from other human beings can fall by your faith and God's power. These are the two essentials. Everyone can be moved by these. Prayer for the Day I pray that I may try to strengthen my faith day by day. I pray that I may rely more and more on God's power.”
