A Wave

January 4, 2025

“Our arrested development has been reborn in the Steps, The Spirit and The Sound of Silence.”

Three readings. A song that says the rest. And inspiration for whatever this day is here to teach.

Living from a Center of Love

Richard Rohr

“The Lord’s Prayer really says, “Lord, there’s so much we can do, but only in Your power.” To have a good, beautiful & kind life—one formed by love—requires us to extend our faith beyond the borders of our private emotional & spiritual concerns. In recovery, we are called into a larger story; one characterized by participation in God’s kingdom. It’s the kind of participation that drives out passivity, and enables us to grow and to live in a bigger world.”

365 Tao

Ming-Dao Deng

“When listening not with the ear but with the spirit, one can perceive the subtle sound. By entering into that sound, we enter into supreme purity. That is why so many religious traditions pray, sing, or chant as a prelude to silence. They understand that the repetition and absorption of sound leads to sacredness itself. The deepest sound is silence. This may seem paradoxical only if we regard silence as an absence of life and vibration. But for a meditator, silence is sound unified with all of its opposites. It is both sound and soundlessness, and it is in this confluence that the power of meditation emerges.”

Desert Banquet

David G.R. Keller

“Silence is the auditorium where the voice of God speaks to our hearts directly. This personal experience of God’s Spirit enables us to bring our “interior activity into accord with God.” We see God as God is and ourselves as God has created us to be. Silence is radical because it requires letting go of our efforts to control our lives. In that “death” we experience a fullness of life we cannot create for ourselves. Silence is the space where our unrestrained “passions” will be transformed into love of God and our neighbor.”

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Am I receiving strength from my faith in a Higher Power? “Gradually we come to believe there must be a Power greater than ourselves who we can turn to for help. Spiritual development is achieved by daily persistence in living the way we believe God wants us to live. Like the wearing away of a stone by steady drops of water, so will our daily persistence wear away our difficulties. Never falter in this daily, steady persistence; go forward boldly & unafraid. God will help and strengthen you, as long as you are trying to do His will. Prayer for the Day I pray that I may persist day by day in gaining spiritual experience. I pray that I may make this a lifetime's work.”
