A Wave

December 18, 2024

“The chief critic, need for approval, recognition & success must fade away.”

Three readings. A song that says the rest. And inspiration for whatever this day is here to teach.

Read — the readings that opened the day

Rumi, p. xv

Coleman Barks (ed.)

“Argue not concerning God, . . . re-examine all you have been told at church or school or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your soul . . ..”

Touchstones

Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation

“The purpose of man's life is not happiness but worthiness.” ~Felix Adler “When we pursue happiness as a goal for its own sake, we usually reach the opposite point of emptiness. Our Eleventh Step tells us we pray only for knowledge of God's will for us and the power to carry that out. This helps us focus on God's purpose for us; allows for an inner sense of joy, even when we aren't having a particularly happy day. Today, God, help me seek goals that make my life worthwhile and to welcome happiness when it comes.”

3

"The Prophet"

Kahlil Gibran

“Your reason and your passion are the rudder and the sail of your seafaring soul. If either your sails or your rudder be broken, you can toss and drift, or else be held at a standstill in mid-seas.”

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Hazelden Foundation

Meditation for the Day “This vast universe around us, including this wonderful earth on which we live, was once perhaps only a thought in the mind of God. The nearer the astronomers and the physicists get to the ultimate composition of all things, the nearer the universe approaches a mathematical formula, which is thought. The universe may be the thought of the Great Thinker. We must try to think God's thoughts after Him. We must try to get guidance from the Divine Mind as to what His intention is for the world and what part we can have in carrying out that intention. Prayer for the Day *I pray that I may not worry over the limitations of my human mind. I pray that I may live as though my mind were a reflection of the Divine Mind.”
