The topic last night at the Fireside Meeting was acceptance. The speaker shared about some of her struggles; I flashed back to my early meetings, when I heard, “Acceptance is not approval!” WTF? How do you, how can you Accept Something that’s uncomfortable, shameful, and impossible to control? I called my sponsor, and he said, “Steve, start with your alcoholism. You don’t have to approve of it. Just ask for help to accept it.”
When I asked, “Why me?” he said, “That sounds like a resentment; let’s read more about it on p. 64: “Resentment is the “number one’’ offender. It destroys more alcoholics than anything else.” I yelled at him, and he simply said, ”Why don’t you write about it? The template is on page 65. By the way, it’s in the chapter “There Is A Solution!” Then he hung up on me!”
Sitting around with Lea, Dale, Dave and Dean, with a combined 200 years sober, it’s obvious it works! The laughter, humor, memories and love flowed. It only cost $2.00! After paying for therapy, sweat lodges, retreats, countless dates, 2 marriages and divorces, and many, many pads of paper, I can be free to celebrate life today.
Thanks for a solution to ALL my problems. Just send me another legal pad and another pen. Instead of running like hell, I'd rather run out of ink!
Maybe today is the day to pick up the tools?
