I came into recovery having no clue on what to expect. All I knew was that I had come to a deep state of desperation and needed help. That morning, I had gone to City of Scottsdale Public Services at Vista del Camino Park <scottsdaleaz.gov/vista-del-camino-community-center> to ask for help; I was told to go to an AA meeting that night. Driving home, I thought about it, and had no better idea what to do. Outside in the parking lot, I sat in my 1978 Chevy Van, deciding whether to go in. In quiet despair, I asked for help; I didn’t know Who I was asking, but I walked in. You’ve given me New Strength, Direction & Inspiration ever since.
Last night at dinner with Gail and our friend Richard, we laughed about wandering around Times Square, looking for the next fix. For him it was heroin; for me, cocaine and any other pills that might help. That quest lasted 15 years, until I met you.
In recovery, I admitted that I had turned my life over to the search for a fix; today, I do the same, but within a new fellowship, with a more reliable & deeper direction, purpose and hope. In Country-Western dancing, we do the 2 Step. In recovery, thank you for showing me the 3-Step dance. It has opened The Door to a vast new universe, and it keeps getting better.
Like my buddy Joe P. DJ-ing at the Dance at St. Mary’s Church back in 1983, it’s electric. Come on, we’ll show you how to do it on the dance floor!
