“Coming into recovery, I was told to find a Power greater than myself.”

Three readings. A song that says the rest. And inspiration for whatever this day is here to teach.

Stepping Stones: More Daily Meditations

Hazelden Foundation

Reactivity is like a knee-jerk response. If we haven't learned of that brief gap between the stimulus & our response, then we don't even know we have a choice. We often might say, "I couldn't help it. If he hadn't done that, I wouldn't have done what I did." At that point, we are still immature and weak. When we gain awareness of this tiny bit of time to choose the best response, we step from immaturity into the wisdom of a grown-up. Today, I ask You to help me become more aware of that moment of choice between a stimulus and my response.

The Art of Listening

Chabad.org

In one of the great dramatic scenes of the Old Testament, God teaches Elijah that He is not in the whirlwind, the earthquake or the fire, but in the “still, small voice.” It takes training, focus and the ability to create silence in the soul to learn how to listen, whether to God or to a fellow human being. Listening not only connects us to the soul of another, but to the soul of the Other, or God as He speaks to us, calls to us, summoning us to our task in the world. Today, let me take time to listen to the Spirit deep within my Soul.

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Meditation for the Day “It is the quality of my life that determines its value. In order to judge the value of a person's life, we must set up a standard. The most valuable life is one of honesty, purity, unselfishness, and love. All people's lives ought to be judged by this standard in determining their value to the world. By this standard, most of the so-called heroes of history were not great men. "What shall it profit a man if he gain the whole world, if he loseth his own soul?" Prayer for the Day I pray that I may be honest, pure, unselfish, and loving. I pray that I may make the quality of my life good by these standards.”
