Arriving at the Valley Alano Club yesterday morning, I walked into the back room of the building. On the chalkboard was a drawing of a stairwell, and on each step was written one word,“God’s Got You Every Step Of The Way.” Life really is one step, one breath, one thought at a time.
The meeting was packed, and my buddy Nate was chairing. We talked about his journey; he’s not even 22 years old, has almost 2 years, and told me he got sober through a treatment center in the Hollywood Hills. Under the Hollywood sign! What, you're making this up?
Like my Rabbi said the other day, stories like the parting of the Red Sea happen all the time, if we get quiet, observe and embrace His care.
Next meeting up with my brother and son Aaron at Chompies, we talked about our memories of family lunches and all of the orders we had shipped or delivered for work. Despite our differences and individual struggles, there was a cohesiveness of family and love. More proof of His care.
Later that day, hiking Dreamy Draw Park, I got a text from my buddy Bruce. He was walking Trail 100; we met up out in the desert, and walked the rest of the way together. We're not alone anymore.
When I walked in the rooms, the signs on the wall made no sense. 'Easy Does It? Let Go Let God. First Things First. Live and Let Live.
What happened to make it happen, do it right, and why me? I was being reminded to let go of old ideas of managing and control.
In Maui, when they hand out a chip, everyone chants “Keep Coming Back and don’t fuck it up!”
I think it’s plain language for "Trust the Process!" Battered and beat up, You gave me a book, a sponsor, and handled me with care.
Thank you for the courage to continue to let go of the known and to walk into the unknown.
