“Sitting here this am, looking forward to our men’s fellowship retreat this weekend, I’m remembering previous retreats I’ve been to. I never needed a retreat before I got sober! Who had time? Too busy managing, trying to control everything, I was in a rush to get everything perfect. Then I got a 24 hour chip, and my world started to change. Relax and take it easy? I had no clue. Then I read this passage in the book: “Is he not a victim of the delusion that he can wrest satisfaction and happiness out of this world if he only manages well?..... there often seems no way of entirely getting rid of self without His aid. Many of us had moral and philosophical convictions galore, but we could not live up to them even though we would have liked to. Neither could we reduce our self-centeredness much by wishing or trying on our own power. We had to have God’s help.”
I sponsor Bruce, who used to call himself Bruce Almighty! We get to laugh together at that illusion, and practice the fine art of letting go. People get ready! **Give yourself time for some kind of retreat. It's part of "a design for living that works."
Help me remember who’s in charge; that a Power greater than myself is waiting for my willingness to get onboard.
