A Wave

“Where was my life going, how were things going to work out without me managing and controlling everything?”

Three readings. A song that says the rest. And inspiration for whatever this day is here to teach.

Centering, Silence, and Stillness

Richard Rohr

“In contemplative prayer, we calmly observe our own stream of consciousness. We begin to see its compulsive patterns. As we practice waiting in silence with an open heart, it doesn’t take long for our usual patterns to assault us. Imagine sitting on a riverbank. Boats and ships—thoughts, feelings & sensations—are sailing past. While the stream flows by your inner eye, name each of these vessels. Control, addiction, negativity, tension, anger, and fear are just some of them. We don’t have to attack, hate, or condemn them. Or jump onboard! Contemplation is an exercise in acceptance. The point is to recognize your thoughts, which are not you, and to say, ‘That’s not something I need.’ Contemplative prayer time is just letting go of those thoughts, judgments, fears, negations, and emotions that want to impose themselves. As we become watchers and witnesses, stepping back & observing without judgment, we gradually come to realize those thoughts and feelings are not actually ‘me.’ There IS a deeper power waiting to flow into us. Let it flow!

Meditation for the Day

Hazelden Foundation

“We cannot fully understand the universe. The simple fact is that we cannot even define space or time. They are both boundless, in spite of all we can do to limit them. We live in a box of space and time, which we have manufactured by our own minds and on that depends all our so-called knowledge of the universe. The simple fact is that we can never know all things, nor are we made to know them. Much of our lives must be taken on faith. Prayer for the Day I pray that my faith may be based on my own experience of the power of God in my life. I pray that I may know this one thing above all else in the universe.”
