A Wave

December 25, 2024

“We are all One; a part of Something much larger than us.”

Three readings. A song that says the rest. And inspiration for whatever this day is here to teach.

Read — the readings that opened the day

1

Practicing the Power of Now

Eckhardt Tolle

“THE BEGINNING OF FREEDOM is the realization that we are not the processing entity – the thinker. Knowing this enables us to observe the Entity. The moment we start watching The Thinker, a higher level of consciousness becomes activated. We begin to realize that there is a vast realm of intelligence beyond thought; that thought is only a tiny aspect of that intelligence. We also realize that all the things that truly matter – beauty, love, creativity, joy, inner peace – arise from beyond the mind. We begin to awaken.”

2

Beyond Sentimentality

Richard Rohr

“If we are to believe the biblical texts, God clearly wants friends and partners to be images of divinity. God, it seems, wants a mature, thoughtful, open and free response from us. God loves us in partnership, with mutual give and take. As we come to believe He is a part of us, that He is in us, we eventually become images of the God that we love.”

The Hanukkah Story

Adapted from The Hanukkah Story

“In 168 BCE, the second Holy Temple of Israel was overtaken by the Syrian Kingdom. After massacring thousands of people & desecrating the city’s holy Second Temple, a Jewish family, known as the Maccabees, banded together & formed a group to defend their temple. They discovered a small container of oil that would only last one night. However, the oil miraculously burned for eight days & eight nights. The Maccabees were victorious and reclaimed their temple. Hanukkah, which means "dedication" in Hebrew, became known as the Festival of Light. For eight nights, as the candles are lit, this prayer is recited: “Praised are You, Lord our God, Ruler of the universe, who made us holy through Your commandments and commanded us to kindle the Hanukkah lights.””

A Deep Breath of Life

Alan Cohen

“Thank God that we have remembered our divine nature. As we throw off the cloak of smallness, we claim the truth about ourselves: We are an expression of a perfect God; everything God is, we are. We are holy. God does not demand we hide or be ashamed; God seeks our awareness & our gratitude to spark the creative Spirit deep within. Today, the Spark is reborn in me!”

Twenty-Four Hours a Day

Hazelden Foundation

Meditation for the Day “The kingdom of heaven is also for the lowly, the sinners, and the repentant. "And they presented unto him gifts - gold, frankincense, and myrrh." Bring your gifts of gold - your money and material possessions. Bring your frankincense - the consecration of your life to a worthy cause. Bring your myrrh - your sympathy and understanding and help. Lay them all at the feet of God and let Him have full use of them. Prayer for the Day I pray that I may be truly thankful on this most special Day. I pray that I may bring my gifts and lay them on the altar.”
