A Wave

December 4, 2024

“Early on in this journey of recovery I was told, “first thought wrong.””

Three readings. A song that says the rest. And inspiration for whatever this day is here to teach.

Contemplation and Compassion: The Second Gaze

Richard Rohr

“The first gaze is seldom compassionate. It’s too busy weighing and feeling itself: How will this affect me? or “What reaction does my self-image demand now? or “How can I regain control of this situation? Let’s admit that we all start there. Only the second gaze sees fully & truthfully. It sees itself, the other, and even God with God’s own compassionate eyes. It is from this place true action must spring.”

Reading

Stanley Paytiamo, Acoma Pueblo

"In the end I tell my children, there's no way I can tell you how to be. You have to experience being present. Each person must make their own journey. It is like every human is given a life canoe. The canoe has one seat and one paddle. In order to get anything out of life we must be in the canoe and we must paddle down the river of life. Now, I can share with you how my journey has been, but I cannot paddle your canoe. You must paddle your own. Go with the Creator; turn often and say, Creator, I'm so glad I have You to guide my path.”

A Deep Breath of Life

Alan Cohen

“At every moment, nature is seeking to restore balance and harmony where it has been upset. This is the essence of healing; it is also our true nature. On the deepest level, we are spiritual beings; that is why nothing material can satisfy us completely. Our true nature is wholeness, kindness and love; we cannot act or identify with cruelty and feel at peace or have life work. We do not need to change ourselves to be divine. We are created of Spirit; to be complete and happy, we can simply let nature take its course. ” Today, help me remember my nature is godly; that I am part of Your divine order.”

Twenty-Four Hours A Day

Hazelden

“Always seek to set aside the valuations of the world that seem wrong and try to judge only by those valuations that seem right to you. Do not seek the praise and notice of the world. Be one of those who, though sometimes scoffed at, have a serenity and peace of mind that the scoffers never know. Be one of that band who feel the Divine Principal in the universe, though He be often rejected because He cannot be seen. Prayer for the Day I pray that I may not heed too much the judgment of the world. I pray that I may test things by what seems right to me.”
