A Wave

December 1, 2024

“The secret to not getting lost in the emotions of the Season is a connection to a God of love, kindness & forgiveness.”

Three readings. A song that says the rest. And inspiration for whatever this day is here to teach.

A Deep Breath of Life

Alan Cohen

“My friend who had emigrated from Russia was very aggressive, and I often felt intimidated by her. Then I went to Russia and stood in a crowd at a department store. The only way I was able to catch the attention of the clerk was to literally push my way to the front of the mob. That experience gave me an important insight into my friend’s programming, and I was able to understand her behavior. No one is mean on purpose. Since love is our nature, anything unlike love is a statement of an individual’s history of pain. Unkindness is not an attack, but a call for love. I pray to see myself, along with all of my brothers and sisters through the eyes of love, to behold only love.”

Evolutionary Thinking

Richard Rohr

“Evolutionary thinking is actually contemplative thinking, because it leaves the full field of the future in God’s hands. The contemplative mind is an evolutionary mind. It allows the future to reveal itself, without present circumstances totally predicting it. We all need some degree of predictability, but in faith, I can live without certainty to some degree. Living in that tension, that in-between, could be called evolutionary thinking, or it could be called trusting in deep time. Today, I’m trusting there’s a deep river flowing. Even when not much is happening on the upper river, I still trust the deeper river.”

The Third Testament

“Some say: God is in heaven; others: God dwells in the Beyond; but they know not what they say, nor do they know in what to believe. Certainly I dwell in the Heavens of light, of power, of love, of wisdom, of justice, of happiness and perfection. I am the Beyond, yes; but beyond human sin, beyond materialism, arrogance and ignorance. For that reason I say that I come to you, because I come toward your smallness, for I speak to you in a way that your senses are able to feel Me and your mind understands Me; not because I come from other worlds or mansions, for My Spirit dwells everywhere.”
